When He's Not Calling Prostitutes

It felt good to write to the junior Senator from Louisiana and tell him how I really feel. He really is quite the embarrassment.

He has been know to be much more embarrassing. Looking forward to his next Senate campaign in 2010 if only because there are going to be some great bumper-stickers.

Grinding My Teeth

I spent a good part of Saturday explaining the difference between being fired and being laid-off to a group of 7th graders. Also tried to explain the organizational "logic" of laying off people who are full-time vs. those who are part-time. That it's all about money and not about merit.

We all came to the consensus that it is not fair, anyway you look at it. Losing one of your favorite teachers due to economics just plain sucks.

The Economy

When I was home in New Orleans over the holidays, all I wanted to do was unplug and rest. I've been back in New York for 9 days and have been going nonstop since hitting the ground. Worn out again. It didn't take long.

The economic downturn is hitting the museum and cultural institutions hard. All my full-time co-workers at one of my part-time jobs got laid off today.

Expecting more bad news next week. Today was the deadline at my other job for people to voluntarily resign.
